Scenic Ruby (2009: 167 passengers)

This time, a European river cruise chosen by Lesley and promising something a bit different. Although this was billed as one of the best all-inclusive river cruise companies in the market, we didn't know quite what to expect and with so much ocean cruising experience, we did have a little trouble adjusting to the differences.

Notwithstanding this being a river cruise, our boat would have to negotiate 25 sets of locks (many of them during the night) but one aspect we were unprepared for was that we would also be subject to the vagaries of low seasonal water levels - meaning that our itinerary didn't quite go to plan...
