The new Celebrity Apex (2020: 130,818grt 3,405 pax) sporting her "dreadnought" bow and the "Magic Carpet" overhanging deck on her starboard side.

Back to the Mediterranean but this time aboard Celebrity's newest Edge-class ship Celebrity Apex. At 130,818grt and 2,900 passengers, she is slightly larger than the Solstice-class but shorter in length by 29ft, partly as a result of her unusual "dreadnought" bow. Like her sister, Celebrity Edge, she sports the "Magic Carpet", an external section of deck, rather like a fork-lift, which can be raised and lowered to provide either a docking platform or an outdoor venue.

But Covid-19 took its toll again! As cruise lines slowly began to get sailing again, a few ships were redeployed to do shorter, reduced-capacity cruises in areas of the world with higher vaccination rates or lower covid infection rates. Our cruise was cancelled and Celebrity Apex was redeployed to Athens to commence a series of summer cruises around the Greek Isles.

However, we decided that we were not yet ready to go back to fly-cruising just yet. Instead, we directed our attention to some scenic UK-based cruises being offered by Viking and Cunard.
