Sagafjord alongside Front Street, Hamilton, Bermuda in 1989

Booked in November 1995, this was to have been a first visit to Philadelphia, cradle of US Independence, as well as a return, not only to Bermuda but also to Charleston & Savannah, which we had discovered upon our first voyage aboard Sagafjord in 1989. But it was not to be.

Cunard had suffered badly in 1994 following QE2's refit which over-ran, ruining her inaugural cruise and resulting in bad publicity and heavy compensation claims. By 1995, Cunard was making heavy losses and in December, a major restructuring was announced in which Sagafjord, now 30 years old, would be withdrawn from service the following September, effectively cancelling our cruise.

However, all was not lost, as the upshot was that by way of "compensation", we were allowed to transfer to the 3-week "Gala Christmas & New Year Cruise" aboard Royal Viking Sun!

Cruise Mileage: 0 nautical miles
