The Cape Cod Peninsular
For 3 nights, we were based in Hyannis and our exclusive guide, Doris, and driver Renee, took us on various tours around the peninsular - we all got to joke about the shape of it being like a person's arm and where on it we were that day!

Cape Cod Lighthouse Provincetown "Bohemian" Provincetown Chatham Lighthouse
The weather was a bit "mixed", often damp and humid, as we explored the coastal areas. There are many lighthouses in this area, historically treacherous to shipping. Coming out of Chatham, there was an incident involving a guy in a truck which hit our wing mirror in a narrow street. The guy then proceeded to have an argument with Renee about who's fault it was (largely because it was his mirror that was smashed, not ours!) and he called the Police while we all looked on out the coach windows! In the end, the Police seemed to think it was a storm in teacup and sent us all on our way!

Martha's Vineyard
We drove down to Wood's Hole, the well-known base from which Dr Robert Ballard set out to discover the wreck of the Titanic. From there we took the ferry to the island of Martha's Vineyard on a gloriously sunny day.

Once on the island, we took a bus-tour down to the immaculately preserved and maintained Edgartown, home of the very rich, then returning to Vineyard Haven, we discovered the village of "Gingerbread" houses in Oak Bluffs - all very quaint and extremely photogenic.

Our third day was another grey one. Visiting Newport, Rhode Island (where the Atlantic yacht races start), we toured the roads of millionaires' mansions on Ocean Drive & Belle Vue Avenue, where the the film "High Society" was set. We then moved on to a hotel in Marlborough, just outside Boston. From here I hastily took the shuttle-bus to Boston Airport to be picked-up by my old school-friend Martin to join him and his family at his lovely Victorian-style home in Cambridge for an evening meal. After a fantastic reunion evening, he drove me all the way back to Marlborough!

Boston, Massachusetts
We had just enough time to see the replica of the Beaver II, involved in the original "Boston Tea Party" of 1733 and some of the sights of Boston, which was in the grips of the "Big Dig", a massive road redevelopment scheme which is taking for ever and costing a fortune!

Having had a wonderful 4 days, notwithstanding the mixed weather, we said our tearful goodbyes to Doris & Renee and by mid-day, we were aboard Norwegian Majesty, for Phase 2 of the holiday.

Boston & The Freedom Trail
The nice thing about this trip was that, returning to Boston from Bermuda, we had more time to explore. This time, the weather was much better and we set off on the historic Freedom Trail.
